I took Pistol for a ride to the hills this morning with John, Thierry and Matt. I was a little concerned he was keeping up with us for much of the ride out there but he soon broke in the face of a stiff headwind and then again in the hills.

The hilly loop.

Thierry and John cruise gracefully up a hill while Pistol wallows somewhere behind us.

Head down, shoulders curved over the handlebars, a cadence of 10 and this was still early days.

We let him have a 10-second rest.

I let him have another rest at the weir. He complained of soreness.

And yet he still had the gall to look cheerful at the coffee shop.

I don’t know if he still intends to pursue his dream of riding 500km over Easter. Barbecue at my parents this afternoon. Let’s see how he rides hung over tomorrow.
